The Punalu’u Bake Shop is the southern most bakery in the United States. The Punalu’u Bake Shop is located in Na’alehu on the Big Island of Hawai’i. They have been making some of the best sweetbreads since the 1970s at the once popular Sea Mountain Resort. A stop to the bake shop is always a must when I’m on the Big Island. The Sweetbread is so soft and fluffy it just melts in your mouth. They also offer a fine selection shortbread cookies. Try them plain or infused with island delights, such as guava, coconut, and coffee flavors. Their gift baskets and cookies make excellent gifts for the holidays or anyone who wants a taste of the islands without the flight.
